Tell us a little bit about yourself and your current role at VIAVI?
I have been with VIAVI for 15 years. I started with the Regional Product Marketing team overseeing the VIAVI access product line which is for testing copper plants, xDSI and E1/Datacom services. I then moved over to Field Marketing in 2011 where our aim is to get our products in front of customers “out in the field”. Over the years, I have evolved from being an outbound marketing beginner focused on messages sent out to audiences to a skillful marketer where I work on developing and implementing strategic marketing plans in a regional context. My main objective is to stay ahead of changes in the marketing environment and be prepared to best serve the marketing moment for each of our regional customers. Every day my efforts contribute to developing purposeful communications designed to help customers harness the power of our solutions.
One of the career shifts I am most proud of was when I took on the challenge to manage both Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) and Greater China events. Such events include marketing activities for trade shows, seminars and social media. It was a tough learning curve where programs require quick execution. My daily mindset includes keeping clear communication with stakeholders and being flexible while staying focused – especially in this unprecedented time of a global pandemic. These tools are just some of the key ways that help me to achieve goals and overcome challenges. I have been very proud to be part of a small but highly effective team moving the huge marketing wheel forward in APAC.
Tell us about your favorite hobby and what skills or qualities it enables you to bring to your role at VIAVI.
I like doing many types of exercises such as short run for a few kilometers and going to the gym once a week. Over the last few months, I have been doing some simple workouts too. I even took up learning to write songs at home! All of these activities help keep me refreshed and cheer me up when I see some results.
One of my favorite mottos is, “The best doesn’t exist, but the better does”. Although there I have a lot of repeat activities every day in my work day, I believe there is always room for improvement, even on simple tasks. I believe Positive Thinking, Creativity and Less for More (Minimal effort for Max impact) enable me to be successful in my job and to ride the waves of this fast changing and unpredictable world!
Name something that VIAVI offers that would be exciting for early-in-career employees.
VIAVI is really a great place for early-in-career employees. I think of VIAVI as “CMO” – meaning “C”: Collaborative, “M”: Multinational and “O”: Open-minded. I like the way that people from different parts of the world get together, contribute great idea and work collaboratively to achieve results. Both the management team and peers are open to suggestions so not a single voice is neglected. Working at VIAVI is like being in an orchestra with a conductor and different instruments (each playing a unique role) that play out a heart-touching music to delight and engage audiences (customers).
