Latest VIAVI release offers easy network troubleshooting through geolocation and user-experience scoring, making packet-level analytics available to the masses.

For years, complicated interfaces and time-consuming processing have made packet-based network performance analytics out of reach for all but the largest enterprises. VIAVI, with the Observer solution, seeks to bridge that gap, chipping away at the often-daunting learning curve of many packet, or wire-data informed toolsets to deliver easy network troubleshooting.

New Features

Building on its “three steps to solve” predefined workflows, Observer Apex introduces end-user experience scoring, dual workflows, and geolocation to drive major efficiency gains, allowing any network team member from the help desk analyst to the senior network engineer access to problem scope and root cause.

Advanced User Experience Intelligence

With the latest version of Observer, understanding user experience is as simple as looking at a single score. The user experience scoring functionality automates assessment, based on hundreds of computations, and isolates problems to the network, application, server, or client domain taking the guesswork and manual sleuthing out of performance management and offering easy network troubleshooting in a more consumable format.

Observer 17.4 Key Features:

End-User Experience Scoring

Apex offers end-user scoring on every TCP-based network conversation via color coding and numeric values between 0 and 10.

  • Poor user experience is illustrated by red and scores from 0 to 5
  • Marginal is yellow with a value of 5 and 8
  • Good with a color of green is greater than 8.

The score is then broken out into network, application, server, or client domains with problem callout for fast, easy network troubleshooting that is more accessible to those with less specialized skills or training.

Site Performance

Geolocation capabilities provide awareness of IT service health whether at the regional, country, city, or data center levels, with even more granularity to individual service groups such as accounting. Users can define these parameters to the individual subnet and VLAN to gain intelligence within or between these defined breakouts for easy network troubleshooting.

Enhanced Search

Enhanced search functionality streamlines and simplifies search for pattern matches to identify abnormal traffic for security and performance investigations. The expanded search menus facilitate the quick locating of all examples of unusual traffic, which can then be easily exported via web interface for storage, documentation, and forensic investigations.
