Tell us a little bit about yourself and your current role at VIAVI?
I work as a Process Engineer with our advanced roll-to-roll coating processes; it is never a dull day on the job. My role is to assist in ensuring VIAVI’s coating machines are running as seamlessly as possible in producing pigments for our anticounterfeiting and custom color solutions applications. The variety and precision required of the pigments we introduce into the marketplace require advanced process control approaches. This coupled with 24/7 production around the clock, there are always unique issues that come to light that require dynamic problem-solving skills. Troubleshooting these issues and applying engineer controls to mitigate variation in the coating process is a large part of the job.
More than “sustaining” efforts, our team is always looking at improving and enhancing our coating processes, so we are constantly looking at avenues for continuous improvement.
A few of these efforts focus on:
1) increasing factory throughput
2) maximizing machine uptime
3) developing advanced tools and correlations to optimize and assist in our coating efforts on the factory floor.
Coordination between the operations, maintenance, and engineering team is integral to our success in the Security Products team at VIAVI, so I find myself fortunate enough to interface with a wide range of bright individuals daily!
Tell us about your favorite hobby and what skills or qualities it enables you to bring to your role at VIAVI.
My favorite hobby is snowboarding. It allows me a nice escape on the weekends to make sure I’m ready to roll come Monday!
