Clean Copper Maximizes Gfast Speed
The Access Network is being rapidly upgraded to Gfast loops with deeper fiber into existing cabinets. To maximize speed, engineers need to ensure the Gfast copper loop is pristine or the expected bandwidth will fall short of goal and customer complaints will follow.
Tools to Accelerate Gfast Copper Test:

This test will indicate if you have a fault, and if so, the next test is typically TDR to locate faults or RFL to find grounding issues. In the case of the VIAVI OneExpert, the Copper Expert advises the engineer on which copper tests to run and explains the test results.
TDR is used to find faults on the line such as splices, shorts, opens, and bridge taps. Often multiple faults exist on a cable and it is important that your TDR can visually represent all faults on the line — not just the first fault which may not be the problem source. It is most efficient to prioritize and fix all the faults at once: if your staff uses a TDR that only shows the first fault, the result is multiple retests and delays.
