Xgig® 4K16 Addresses All Layers of the Stack, at Link Speeds Up to 16 GT/s, Supporting R&D of Next-Generation Compute and Storage Networking

PCI-SIG DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE 2017, Santa Clara, Calif., June 7, 2017 – Viavi Solutions (NASDAQ: VIAV) announced the availability of an integrated protocol analyzer and jammer designed to be compliant with the PCI Express (PCIe®) 4.0 standard, enabling integrated circuit and storage networking vendors to validate next-generation products delivering double the data transfer speed of the current standard. The new capability is based on the Xgig protocol analyzer platform trusted by industry leaders in communications and storage networking.

PCIe 4.0 technology is the fourth generation of the leading standard for connectivity between computing elements including processors, memory, networking and storage. Developed by industry group PCI-SIG® and its members, PCIe 4.0 technology addresses the continuing surge in bandwidth and data consumption by doubling the data transfer speed from the previous generation to 16 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) while reducing power use to maximize power efficiency.

The Xgig 4K16 Protocol Analyzer/Jammer for PCI Express 4.0 technology meets vendor needs for a feature-rich, efficient and user-friendly test platform for PCIe 4.0 specification connectivity. An addition to the Xgig portfolio used by network equipment manufacturers worldwide to test, validate and troubleshoot performance of their networking innovations, this solution:

  • allows for simultaneous protocol analysis and error injection at all layers of the stack
  • supports lane widths of x1, x2, x4, x8 and x16 at link speeds of 2.5 GT/s, 5.0 GT/s, 8.0 GT/s and 16 GT/s
  • supports both PCIe technology and NVMe (chassis, firmware and software)
  • connects with other Viavi protocol analyzers for Ethernet, SAS and FC to provide time-correlated multi-protocol views.

“With data transfer speeds up to 16GT/s, the PCIe 4.0 specification enables the performance scalability needed to meet exploding demand for bandwidth, ranging from data centers and workstations, to virtual and augmented reality,” said Al Yanes, PCI-SIG President and Chairman. “Viavi’s support of the PCIe 4.0 architecture helps pave the way for the evolution to next-generation compute and storage networking.”

“Today’s complex network environments require the simplicity of a single test platform capable of conducting simultaneous multiprotocol analysis and error injection at all layers of the stack for faster troubleshooting and less down time,” said Tom Fawcett, Vice President and General Manager, Lab and Production Business Unit, Viavi Solutions. “The Xgig 4K16 platform is the all-in-one tool that delivers the performance, efficiency and versatility needed by storage appliance manufacturers and data center field technicians alike for unmatched network visibility and analysis.”
