High Speeds and Interoperability Are Highlights at OFC 2017
At the end of March, Viavi attended the OFC 2017 conference in Los Angeles, California. It was a vibrant, busy show with a great international showing – both in the exhibitors and attendees. There are many new, exciting innovations and collaborations happening in the fiber optics arena and we are proud to be a part of the momentum that was a big focus of the conference.
Viavi was recognized on the first night of the event at a reception where our CEO, Oleg Khaykin, accepted three Lightwave Awards for the TBERD/MTS 5800-100G, OSA-710, and OneExpert DSL products. Oleg also announced that Viavi has been named the leader in the global fiber optic test equipment market by independent research firm Frost & Sullivan for the sixth year in a row.
Here’s a quick re-cap some of the topics and moments we captured in photos and video.
Live 400G Network
At the show, Viavi collaborated with Finisar, Oclero and the Ethernet Alliance to showcase a live 400G network. Here’s John D’Ambrosia of the Ethernet Alliance talking about this live, interoperable 400G network operating at OFC. Viavi’s head of lab and test, Dr. Paul Brooks, also gave us a quick video overview of the emerging 400G ecosystem.
The fiber trade journal, Light Reading, stopped by our booth for a video update and interview with Viavi GM Tom Fawcett on the future of fiber optics and market trends.
100G Field Test
In other high speed news, product line manager Mike Bangert introduced us to the new 100G-capable T-BERD/MTS 5800-100G. Getting deeper into this product, Guylain Barlow demonstrated the versatility of the 5800-100G with its flexible module options for fiber test, timing and sync, and OTDR among others.
Technical Poster Session
Shown at right, product line manager, Wolfgang Moench presented a well-attended Poster Session covering the innovative OSA-710 methodologies for in-band testing of OSNR.
The interest in Viavi solutions was high at this show where the most leading edge players are seeking out solutions and collaborations for the evolving network ecosystem. There is no doubt these are days of big change in fiber optics as demand continues to grow and technologies continue to evolve.
